It scrutinizes insanity defense and its conception in international criminal law with a view on its applicability in different International Criminal Tribunals and International Criminal Court.It concerns as well the same theme said above in particular with regard to Rwandan criminal law system centering on mechanisms used for psychiatric expert witnesses to assure their objectivity in making expert report; credibility of the information they give to the trial court; risk of misleading the expert witness by criminal suspects and critically analyzes the issue of period of assessment by psychiatrists besides to conditions of the psychiatric expert report.It also explores criterion of selection of a psychiatric expert witness and the way psychiatrists understand the concept of mental illness as well as how criminal law judges do understand the concept of insanity.
