Christie W. Kiefer, son of a once-aristocratic family, grew up in the new and rebellious surfing culture of 1950s Southern California. While earning a PhD in anthropology at U.C. Berkeley, he was active in the Free Speech Movement. His globetrotting career was to write about exotic people and places. Kiefer is the author of eight published books.
