Lasers have advantages such as a bloodless operative field, minimal to absent postoperative pain and high patient acceptance which makes laser a highly advantageous alternative to conventional treatment. Along with the many advantages with lasers we have disadvantages like high cost, safety precaution for eyes, skin should be taken while operating for both operator and patient and need specially trained person for operation. These disadvantages can be overcome by using safety measures, cost also decreased promisingly once a period of time. However dental lasers today are small, light weight, highly portable and increasingly affordable. Looking to the future, taking into consideration of many advantages, it is expected that specific laser technologies will become an essential component of contemporary dental practice over the next decade.
