The city of Kindu, located in the Maniema province of the Democratic Republic of Congo, is the focus of this study on the dynamics of land occupation and use. This research uses remote sensing data to analyze changes in land use between 1988 and 2024, i.e. thirty-six years, with a particular focus on urban and peri-urban areas.Kindu's urban territories have undergone significant transformations as a result of rapid urbanization, combined with socio-economic, environmental and political factors. Land use is influenced by growing demographic pressure, internal migration and often inappropriate urban policies. Through the application of remote sensing technologies, we have been able to observe how these dynamics are visually translated on satellite images.Initially, our study presents a historical analysis of land use changes, illustrating periods of growth and decline. We have identified several typologies of land use, including residential or built-up areas, areas with vegetation, and areas with a high degree of urbanization.
