Boyi John Mallam proviene de Sabon Sarki en el área de gobierno local de Kachia en el estado de Kaduna. Tiene una maestría en Historia del Arte de la Universidad Ahmadu Bello, Zaria, donde actualmente está haciendo su doctorado en Historia del Arte. Ha estado enseñando historia del arte, pintura y dibujo durante los últimos 11 años. Es miembro de varios organismos profesionales.
