JOHN CALVIN's AND THE LUO VIEWS ON SANCTIFICATION This work interprets the role of the Holy Spirit in sanctification according to John Calvin. It then responds to Calvin's views from the perspective of the Luo Christians of the Africa Inland Church of Kenya. The study of Calvin focuses on the 1559 Edition Institutes. The perspectives of Calvin's views explored are those of the Christian life and that of the Christian life as a life of Grace and Gratitude. Calvin understood the Spirit as the power through which the Christian life comes to be, and the power through which such life is lived for the honor and glory to God- a life that pays Gratitude to Him. Further, he understood the Spirit as the power bringing forth transformation into the Image of God"during the process. The study shows that the Luo understand the role of the Holy Spirit in a somewhat similar manner; an indication that Calvin's teaching had a significant impact among the Luo of the Africa Inland Church of Kenya.
