Éric de Buretel de Chassey is a French historian of French art, art critic, and professor of contemporary art at François Rabelais University in Tours, France. He has published books, essays, and catalogues on art from the 20th and 21st Centuries on abstraction, Matisse, American art and photography, and has curated numerous shows in France and abroad. Mr. de Chassey was named director of the French Academy in Rome in 2009. During his first two terms as Director of the French Academy in Rome, he carried out a thorough reform of the institution, which resulted in a revision of the statutory decree in 2012 and a reform of the residences in 2013.
