Allen Firth studied mathematics at Southampton University and statistics at University College London, leading to a management career in financial services, before switching in later life to further post-graduate studies at Oxford University and Oxford Brookes University, gaining a doctorate in managing conservation of the historic environment. He recently retired as a Conservation Officer for Stratford-on- Avon District Council. Previous research led to publication of a local history book in 2005 covering the Cotswold settlements of Bourton-on-the-Hill, Batsford and Sezincote.
