Robin Cohen is an established scholar in development studies and sociology, known best for his writings on migration, diasporas and globalization. His books include Migration and its enemies (2006), Global diasporas: an introduction (1997, rev. 2008) and Global sociology (co-author, 2000, rev. 2007, 2013). He has long been fascinated by islands, an interest continued over many years through visits, research trips and residence in Mauritius, St Helena and the Caribbean. He was Professor of Sociology at the University of the West Indies, Trinidad and is now Emeritus Professor at the University of Oxford. This collection of his essays charts his intellectual journeys to islands, including the political economy of Mauritius and the Caribbean, critiques of colonial development models, forays into cultural social theory, and work on hybridity and creolization.
