Drawing on the words of over one hundred theologians and philosophers of religion, this anthology expresses their views on such issues as salvation, pluralism, and the conflicting truth claims made by the different world faiths. The readings in this volume are taken from across the world religions and their key thinkers; they cover the full spectrum of views from traditional to radical, as well as providing a comprehensive overview of the interfaith debate and all its central themes. Among the significant voices included are those of Hans Kung, karl Barth, Mahatma Gandhi, Rosemary Radford Ruether, Seyyed Hossein Nasr, Martin Buber and the Dalai Lama in a collection that traces the development of the discipline from the early twentieth century to the present day. Coherent, detailed, and featuring an extensive bibliography of the major works in the field, this is an essential text for anyone interested in or involved with interfaith relations.
