Er hat einen Abschluss in Pädagogik, einen Master in Kulturwissenschaften und einen Doktortitel in Regionalstudien von der Autonomen Universität Chiapas. Er ist Professor im Bachelor-Studiengang Pädagogik und im Master-Studiengang Bildung und hat in verschiedenen nationalen und internationalen Fachzeitschriften über Interkulturalität und Bildungsforschung veröffentlicht.
