Mary Byrne pursued a career in primary education, firstly as a teacher and then as Head of School. She has been motivated to write by young children and their love of stories. Mary always aspired to deliver a creative curriculum and instil in children, a love of learning. Grumpalot, her first book, has been inspired by riverside walks, observing and photographing the characters along the riverbank, watching the engagement of young children as they actively interact with and enjoy the antics of the riverside creatures.
