Da Bibliotheken immer mehr Lehraufgaben übernehmen, die die Vermittlung von Informationskompetenz umfassen, wurde dieses Buch als Grundlagenwerk zur Professionalisierung von Bibliothekaren im Bereich Didaktik/Instructional Design konzipiert. Gleichzeitig ist es ein praktisches Nachschlagewerk, das die Arbeit beim Planen von lernförderlichen Führungen und Veranstaltungen mit Hilfe eines Leitfadens erleichtert.
