This Dissertation aimed to Assess the contribution of the use of Information Technology in the practice of strategic planning in Higher Education Institutions, using the methodology of information systems for academic development, that is: the research assessed the use of Information Technology to support the information system methodologies in the organization. The Case Study Methodology was adopted, based on the Exploratory and Qualitative Approach, with the application of a questionnaire to the Manager, Professor and Student of the Centro Universitário do Estado do Pará, located in Belém, State of Pará, Brazil. The results revealed that: Information Technology is feasible in contributing to the practice of strategic planning in Organizations, from the methodology of information systems, with a view to achieving academic development, provided that: a) it promotes investment in the acquisition of computers as a work tool, computerizing all its departments, b) it adopts Operational Planning, Tacit and Strategic Planning to achieve medium and long-term goals; among other Management measures.
