The main aim of the book is to study the influence of Bi addition to As40S60 chalcogenide material. The multi component chalcogenides of As, Sb, Bi found important applications in infrared optics and optical recording. The energy band gap of the material plays a major role in the preparation of the device for a particular wavelength, which can be modified by the addition of impurity. So, the influence of metallic additives on the optical properties has been an important issue in the case of chalcogenide glasses. The As40S60 film is probably one of the most studied among the binary systems of semiconducting chalcogenide glasses. The ternary Bi-As-S glasses are formed by adding Bi atoms in the As-S system. The corresponding substitution does not alter drastically the basic structure of glass, since both As and Bi are isovalent elements. The present paper reports the optical modification in As40S60 thin film. In the proposed work, the As40S60 and As40S54Bi06 thin films were preparedand were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and UV-Vis-NIR Spectrophotometer.
