The book explains about Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, oxidative stress, free radicals, importance of antioxidant defense system and management of diabetes due to oxidative stress. The book comprises of in vitro culture and quantification of active principles by HPLC (High Performance Liquid Chromatography) method of two antidiabetic plants i.e Aegle marmelos & Gymnema sylvestre. Further it describes about the efficacy studies carried out using two chemical diabetogens, alloxan and streptozotocin on animal models for type 1 diabetes and & transgenic db/db mice for type 2 diabetes. The book reveals the antioxidant potential of Aegle marmelos & Gymnema sylvestre along with their antidiabetic properties using biochemical estimations of enzymes such as catalase, superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase; non-enzymatic mechanisms which involves compounds such as vitamin C and vitamin E.
