On 10 December 1941, the Royal Navy battleship HMS Prince of Wales was sunk by Japanese bombers in the South China Sea. Admiral Sir Jock Slater CGB LVO DL served as First Sea Lord 1995-1998 and was Equerry to HM The Queen 1968-1971. Lieutenant Commander Douglas Hadler RN served in the Royal Navy from 1958-1980.
