Once expelled from school forstanding up to a bigoted teacher, Pettigrew'sscholar-activist commitments to eradicating racism have beeninfluential and equal to those of any social scientist of the lasthalf century." Joe R. Feagin, Texas A & M University

FOR FM PUFFS PAGE:

"This book is designed simultaneously as a tribute to TomPettigrew, one of the world's foremost scholars of prejudice, and as a 'state of the art' collection of essaysdelineating social psychology's contribution to the reductionof prejudice around the world. It succeeds admirably in both theseaims. It is a fitting celebration of Pettigrew's career, bothas a pioneering social scientist and as a courageous activist inthe cause of social justice. The essays, written by a veritable'Who's Who' in the social psychology ofintergroup relations, are admirably concise and well-writtenaccounts of the key recent developments in the field. There can befew topics which deserve more of our attention than that ofimproving intergroup relations. In an increasingly fissured world,it is both timely and reassuring to know that so many of socialpsychology's leading minds are addressing themselves here tothe cause of promoting tolerance and social harmony. Researchersand policy-makers alike will profit greatly from a closestudy of this book." Rupert Brown, University of Sussex
