Like family, the extended family is severally defined as a social unit that contains the nuclear together with blood relations/ relatives. An extended family is simply a family unit that extends past the nuclear family to include other relatives such as aunts and grandparents. The extended family is one that extends beyond the immediate family consisting of parents, uncles, aunts cousins and grandparents all living nearby or in the same household. In most cultures, the core of the family is the nuclear family which consist of the parents and children.
