Studies show that lightning has a large effect on the resistance level of the transmission line and the high voltage level is caused by a lightning strike. Lightning overvoltage is one of the key points in the insulation design of high voltage transmission lines and power systems. The effect of the corona phenomenon in numerical analyzes of electromagnetic transients in power systems is often overlooked due to the lack of empirical information. In this study, we will look for the relationship between overvoltage and power system protection, which leads to many economic benefits. Therefore, a full understanding of the corona characteristics in the AC transmission line will help to understand the actual wave process and find a suitable design for power systems. Investigation and analysis of lightning strikes with the presence and absence of corona phenomenon have been performed on overhead lines and it was found that the results of corona impact lead to an increase in conductive capacitance.
