He seems to have run out of ideas, and his typewriter is staying quiet. Instead of forcing himself to write, he decides to take his dog on a walk. They travel the neighborhood together, meeting another dog, a friendly neighbor, a squirrel, and a line of people waiting for soup. It's a splendid day--and the narrator starts to wonder if all these simple, everyday things couldn't become the story he's looking for.

Philip C. Stead is an American author and illustrator. He is the author of A Sick Day for Amos McGee, which was named the best illustrated book of 2010 by The New York Times and the best children's book of the year by Publishers Weekly. He is also the recipient of a Caldecott medal.
