You wear a headscarf because your mother, your aunts, your grandmothers and your cousins wear it too. You wear it to quietly set yourself apart from unbelieving women, whom you see as fruit without a peel, lollies without a wrapper. Any fly can drink their nectar, and they will rot away, but a woman who covers herself remains fresh. And once that fruit is ripe, it is peeled by its rightful owner for his ultimate enjoyment. I used to want to be a fruit with a peel. But not any more.
