This study incorporates the synthesis of hydroxyapatite (HAp) with the chemical method using orthophosphoric acid and its coating on titanium substrate which suits the application demands of the orthopaedic implant material. This study incorporates the synthesis of hydroxyapatite (HAp) with the chemical method using orthophosphoric acid and its coating on titanium substrate which suits the application demands of the orthopaedic implant material. Pulsed laser deposition (PLD) method was used to deposit HAp and reinforced HAp thin films on Ti substrates. Pure HAp coatings, when deposited on the metallic substrate suffer from poor mechanical properties like fretting fatigue, toughness and abrasive wear resistance which results in post-application problems. So, an attempt has been made to deposit pure & 10 wt.% (80Al2O3- 20TiO2) reinforced HAp by PLD Technique on Ti substrate. The effect of reinforcement at different temperatures were evaluated. The characterisation of the films was conducted using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD). Atomic force microscopy (AFM) and Energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy analysis (EDS) was also conducted to find its effect on surface roughness and Ca/P ratio respectively.
