Jenna Black studierte Anthropologie und Französisch an der Duke University in North Carolina. Eigentlich wollte sie als Primatologin arbeiten, verdiente stattdessen jedoch eine Zeitlang mit dem Verfassen technischer Dokumentationen ihren Lebensunterhalt. Seit 2006 ist sie erfolgreich als Autorin tätig.
