This book presents the concept of human dignity and interpersonal relationship in the moral and socio-political perspective. How respect for human dignity in an interpersonal relationship is interwoven with the idea of a 'just society'- a society where each of its members shall respect others as a person without any discrimination is examined. The concept of a person qua person in reference to the concept of human dignity is analyzed. A person has 'dignity' by virtue of being a person as such, irrespective of social positions, roles and relations that one has in a society. Authentic and just human relationship is considered as an imperative for a just social order where equal respect for human dignity is ensured for every member in society. What entitles a person to be considered as worthy to have dignity and how 'respect for human dignity' can be considered as a social paradigm for just social order are some of the basic questions which are explored. A workable solution to address the issues in the way to realize human dignity by each and every individual in society is presented. Human dignity has been found as a natural endowment of human beings as such. Philosophically human dignity is deduced from the postulation of freedom, consciousness, autonomy and rationality as a natural inheritance of human beings to be considered as a person. Human dignity as a natural endowment of human beings ought to be honoured and human beings deserve respect only and only by virtue of being a person. Education of 'respect for human dignity' as an ideal of interpersonal relationship shall ensure a just and harmonious social order. Education as an agency of social development should be available to all in society. It should be structured, in all levels, to facilitate the holistic development of individuals in society. In the stage of primary education, children should be taught to internalize the idea of 'self-respect' and 'respect for others' as moral values, in them. The education of treating a person as an 'end' shall certainly ensure respect to others in social existence. A just society may come into being through the democratization of socio-political principles and ethical practices in society. Ethical practices should be aimed at 'interrelatedness' of the 'self' with 'others' in 'social totality'. Morality, in social practice, should be taken as a 'project' to the solution of the problems, created by conflicting interests of individuals in society. Moral education is expected to prevent conflicts if it threatens social existence. It shall mitigate and harmonize the conflicting interests and impart the value of cooperation in society.
