Holography is an exciting branch of the discipline of optics. Holography, like photography, represents the total endeavour of recording and retrieving of the subject information in the format of optical fields or wavefronts. Holography is a recent addition to the rich repertoire of optical techniques, which have been developed over years for the understanding of a subject in terms of its image. Admittedly we are choosing an imperfect route to understand a subject, because an image obtained with an optical instrument always suffers from certain deficiencies in so far as its information content is concerned. The optical phenomenon of interference and diffraction play crucial role in holography. It is precisely for this reason we will endeavour to built the edifice of holography on the same foundation namely, Young's experiment.
