Rebecca Unger (author) is a pediatrician with the Northwestern Children's Practice (NWCP) in Chicago and she is an Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine. Dr. Unger has received the Dean's Award for Teaching Excellence from Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine, and the Breast Feeding Friendly Award from the Chicago Area Breast Feeding Coalition. Dr. Unger has been repeatedly named as one of Chicago's top doctors in Chicago Magazine's annual survey. Dr. Unger also has twenty years of experience working in the Lurie Children's Hospital Wellness and Weight Management Clinic. She is also a mother of two, a wife, and a banjo playing swing dancer! The Northwestern Children's Practice (NWCP) team educates parents to help them raise healthy children and educates children to help them develop healthy habits. Founded in 1973, the NWCP provides comprehensive care with individualized attention for children from infancy through adolescence and young adulthood. As described by the American Academy of Pediatrics, reading aloud to children beginning in infancy enhances early literacy skills, improves school readiness, and strengthens the relationship between parents and children during this critical time in a developing brain. Dr. Unger also wrote this book to share what she learned from her family growing up, and what she learned while raising her own children.
