After marriage, the women are enmeshed in an intra-familial cultural conflict. A plethora of factors is identified as causes for perpetuating violence against women. These factors are personality traits, suspicion, economic independence of the wives, inferiority complex (of husbands) lack of interest in household work, alcoholism, family conflict, monetary problem, sex related reasons and in-laws' interference. The book makes an in-depth analysis of reactions of women towards harassment. The cultural and traditional backgrounds of Indian women compel them to be tolerant.

Dr. Pravabati Guru is currently teaching Home Science at Government Women College, Sambalpur, Odisha, India. She has obtained her Ph.D in Home Science from Sambalpur University, Odisha. She is a prolific writer, eloquent orator and a social activist.
