Das absolut Wesentliche im Menschen aber ist das Recht des Lebens, ein Recht, das sich über den Schutz der Unversehrtheit hinaus auch auf die Teilhabe an der Wirklichkeit der Freiheit erstreckt. Für dies Wesentliche muß die bürgerliche Gesellschaft sorgen, und zwar so weit, dass Hegel, jedenfalls im Wintersemester 1819/20, über den sonst stark hervorgehobenen Bildungsaspekt hinaus, immer wieder auch auf das Thema Soziale Sicherstellung zu sprechen kommt, denn erst die Anerkennung gibt dem Individuum sein Dasein. Gerade, weil dies zutrifft, ist Hegels Anspruch an die institutionelle Ordnung von so elementarer Bedeutung. Indem er seine Theorie der Gerechtigkeit nicht gegen, sondern aus den Strukturvoraussetzungen der gegebenen Gesellschaft heraus entwirft, hat er darüber hinaus auch dem politischen Liberalismus ein bis heute brauchbares Instrument an die Hand gegeben, um programmatische Fehlorientierungen zu überwinden.
