Single crystals are the pillars for the development of a new generation of devices to meet the demands put forth by society. The crystal growth and characterization of technologically important materials have evolved into a thrust area of research in material science. However suitable crystal growth techniques may allow the growth of crystals with minimum defects. The present investigation focuses on the low-temperature solution growth method. The search of materials with NLO property along with good physical, chemical and mechanical characteristics continues on metal-organic crystals. The entitled present work "An investigation on the synthesis, growth and characterization of organometallic single crystals" is broadly divided into six chapters. The first chapter gives an introduction of crystal growth. In this chapter low-temperature solution growth and NLO properties are discussed. Second chapter gives the literature survey, aim and scope of the present work. Third chapter explains the various characterization techniques used in this work. Fourth chapter explains the synthesis, growth and characterization of glycine zinc cadmium thiocyanate (GZCTC) single crystals.
