Sterling created graphic designs for schools and local businesses in his early teens. A client used his artwork for a children's book bag prototype and patented it. Additionally, his artwork was commissioned, placed on T-shirts, and sold at the opening of Proehlific Park, a sports facility in his hometown of Greensboro Sterling B.
