Les frères Jules (1830-1870) et Edmond (1822-1896) Goncourt sont des écrivains français à l'origine de l'académie Goncourt. Jules se consacre en partie aux ouvrages historiques, pour finalement se tourner vers la littérature, et plus particulièrement vers le mouvement naturaliste.Ami de Tourgueniev, Gustave Flaubert, Alphonse Daudet, Émile Zola, ou encore Guy de Maupassant, Edmond anime avec son frère un salon littéraire informel tous les dimanches baptisés le " Grenier " où se réunissent notamment Maurice Barrès, Alphonse et Léon Daudet, Gustave Geffroy, Roger Marx, Octave Mirbeau, Auguste Rodin, Émile Zola.Les frères Goncourt écriront six romans en commun, dont " Germinie Lacerteux " (1864), " Manette Salomon " (1867) et " Madame Gervaisais " (1869), avant la mort de Jules des suites d'une paralysie générale progressive.
