Amongthemostobviousachievementsofthisrelativelynewprogramming paradigmarenewlibrariesofsoftwarecomponents,bothinareasoffundam- talandbroadlyusedalgorithmsanddatastructures theStandardTemplate Library andinmorespecializedareassuchascomputeralgebra,graphtheory, and computational geometry. As useful as such components may be, however, theyareprobablylessimportantthantheoverallgenericprogrammingmeth- ologybeingdeveloped. Many informaldiscussionsalsotookplace,oneofthemanybene?tsoftheDagstuhl setting. The traditional Dagstuhl social event was at this meeting a Baroque concertheldinthechapeloftheSchloß.
