A resident of Buffalo Grove, a Chicago suburb, Alex graduated from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, where he was awarded the Department of History Scholarship for Outstanding Senior Honors Thesis and the Martha Belle Barrett Scholarship for Undergraduate Academic Excellence.
