How can we motivate our students to learn, keep them motivated enough to stick to a learning process to the end and encourage teamwork as well as competition among themselves? The answer can be the design, implementation and consistent use of game based learning (GBL) that immerses the students with the material which is critical for effective learning. The Spelling Bee (TSB) is an innovative educational framework designed as a GBL tool for helping students in understanding English language spellings. The TSB was implemented at Shashi View Primary School in Bindura to grade 4, grade 5 and voluntary grade 6 students. Pre-tests and post-tests were used as assessment tools to evaluate the potential of GBL in primary education. A survey was also conducted to seek for acceptance of GBL. The results indicated that GBL have a significant impact to students performance if it is blended with their conventional learning practice and therefore the researcher recommends that GBL is good to enhance students performance in primary education.
