As a young woman, 171/2 years of age, just 5 feet tall and weighing only 98 lbs, Veronica volunteered to join the Womens Auxiliary Air Force in England as a Flight Mechanic in 1943, working on aircraft engines. Having been raised in a convent from the tender age of 3 and starting work at 14, she was familiar with rules and regulations, and wore her uniform and performed her tasks with pride. Easily adaptable to many changes- two years in Canada and a return to England, Veronica was once again wearing a uniform as a drill instructor in the post-war air force, then survived a roller coaster of marriages, births, deaths and divorces, many moves, many different vocations, and extensive solo travels. She finally settled down, though still enjoying travelling and life to the fullest with someone very special. The air force still plays a major role in Veronica's life, with attendance at several meetings and parades with veterans each year.
