This book considers the kinematics and dynamics of the flows of fluids exhibiting a yield stress. Continuum mechanics governing the fluid mechanics is described. Two chapters are dedicated to analytical solutions to several steady and unsteady flows of viscoplastic fluids, including flows with pressure-dependent rheological parameters.
Perturbation methods, variational inequalities to solve fluid flow problems, and the use of energy methods are discussed. Numerical modeling using augmented Lagrangian, operator splitting, finite difference, and lattice Boltzmann methods are employed. The

Produktbeschreibung
This book considers the kinematics and dynamics of the flows of fluids exhibiting a yield stress. Continuum mechanics governing the fluid mechanics is described. Two chapters are dedicated to analytical solutions to several steady and unsteady flows of viscoplastic fluids, including flows with pressure-dependent rheological parameters.

Perturbation methods, variational inequalities to solve fluid flow problems, and the use of energy methods are discussed. Numerical modeling using augmented Lagrangian, operator splitting, finite difference, and lattice Boltzmann methods are employed.
The second edition provides new sections on flows of yield stress fluids with pressure-dependent rheological parameters, on flows with wall slip, and on deriving the fundamental equations for Boltzmann lattice materials. Furthermore new material on the lubrication approximation and applications of finite differences has been added.
Autorenporträt
Raja R. Huilgol is Emeritus Professor of Mathematics at Flinders University, Adelaide, Australia. He is the author of a book and the co-author of another one on the fluid mechanics of viscoelastic fluids, and the author of a book on viscoplastic fluids. Apart from fluid mechanics, his research interests are spread across several disciplines, such as injection molding, stability of trains, modeling photosynthesis, and granular flows. Georgios C. Georgiou is Professor of Applied Mathematics at the University of Cyprus, Cyprus. He is Co-author of a fluid mechanics book. His research interests cover computational rheology, non-Newtonian fluid mechanics, and computational fluid mechanics.
Rezensionen
"This book is an introduction to viscoplastic fluid mechanics. ... This book will be a valuable resource for applied mathematicians and fluid dynamicists." (Valeriu Al. Sava, zbMATH 1328.76001, 2016)
