A fertilisation trial in field lettuce took place on the DLR Rheinpfalz trial plot in Schifferstadt. The trial consisted of 12 variants with 4 parallels each. Different N-fertilisers as well as different N-quantities and fertilisation strategies were compared. The aim was to find out how, by varying the timing, amount and form of nitrogen fertilisation, both leaf senescence and increased nitrate levels in the crop can be avoided and, at the same time, as little nitrate as possible is leached into the groundwater.
