Studies have shown an increase in the use of Complementary Alternative Medicine (CAM)in the US, but little is known about women with infertility and their use of CAM therapies. The purpose of this study was to obtain demographic profiles of women who use CAM; the percentage of CAM usage; and knowledge of CAM & types of CAM used for treatment of infertility. 415 women from the RESOLVE on-line support group completed the survey whose results are reported here. Infertility is a life altering experience for women. Providers play a vital role in the decision making process for treatment. It is important to provide accurate and reliable information on various aspects of care including CAM options. Many physicians are referring to CAM providers, providing CAM services or are interested in doing so. Research is finding that CAM therapies offer positive results but research is limited. Research is essential to make informed choices regarding treatments demonstrating clinical effectiveness, safety and cost.
