This study focuses in determining the factors affecting academic performance of Grade 10 Regular Class students in Araling Panlipunan in Rizal National High School. A survey will be conducted to collect information and responses of students through a well-defined survey questionnaire, regarding factors affecting their academic performance. The outcome of the study is expected to be helpful in developing effective intervention strategies aimed at improving students¿ performance and also in suggesting suitable changes that will benefit the students, parents, teachers, principal, the whole Rizal National High School and especially the country. The students¿ performance (academic achievement) plays an important role in producing the best quality graduates who will become great leader and manpower for the country thus responsible for the country¿s economic and social development. A case of secondary school students¿ performance remains at top priority for educators. In this generation, education is considered as a first step for every human activity and it plays a vital role in the development of a learner. Students are most essential asset for any educational institute. Schools, colleges and universities have no worth without student. Education has become highly competitive and commercial in many countries. It is on the basis of high academic performance that students get selected to good secondary schools, better courses of study, and eventually better jobs. Academic achievement has become a yardstick of self-worth and success while academic performance is a complex behavior. Meanwhile, education research has identified many factors that predict students¿ academic performance, especially cognitive ability and personality variables; little has focused on attendance rates.
