From the ancient to the contemporary era, people have continued to point out the relevance and importance of philosophy to human life and development. On account of this, in many universities around the world, the study of some topics in philosophy is part of the compulsory general study courses for undergraduates. Philosophy is saddled with existential issues. The contributors to this book have discussed some of them: phenomenology, knowledge of the self, uses of utilitarianism in ethics and politics, ethical problems of use of placebo in medical practice, positivistic morality and the masses, democratization process in Africa and health education. Philosophy could be used to solve some of the problems and challenges the world is facing today. The contributors have helped to provoke thought among philosophers and non philosophers with the aim of eliciting possible solutions to some of the existential issues in philosophy and in the society.
