Permeability is one of the important, basic engineering property of soil and finds utility in a number of soil engineering problems such as yield of wells, seepage through and below the earth structures and design of filters etc. However, as a soil parameter it is cumbersome and time consuming process to measure permeability especially in the case of fine grained soil and can be highly variable. The Permeability of the soil is depends upon a large number of soil factors such as particle size, structure of the soil mass, shape of soil particles, void ratio, plastic limit and property of the permeate etc. For these reasons several researchers have proposed various indirect methods for predicting Permeability. In this study, an attempt has been made to estimate permeability of soils as a function of above soil properties. An empirical model was developed for the determination of soil permeability using linear regression analysis. I believe that this book will be very useful for students and researchers from civil engineering field.
