Antibiotic resistance of the causative agents of infectious diseases is a worldwide health problem in biology and medicine. Mechanisms of resistance to anti microbial used to treat infectious disease have been known since before antibiotics were introduced into routine clinical usage. Unconsidered and often overuse of anti microbial has, however, compounded the problem by enriching for resistant bacterial populations at the expense of sensitive ones. Emergence of antibiotics resistance leads to increased mortality, morbidity and costs of treatment. Even though, there were various indications on the misuse of antibiotics by health care providers, unskilled practitioners and drug consumers, there is still inadequate awareness as well as surveillance on the control and prevention of antibiotic resistance in health care sectors. Without urgent action, we are heading for a post-antibiotic era, in which common infections and minor injuries can once again kill. Therefore, this book hope to review on enzyme mediated antibiotic resistance and its mechanisms of development which is the most extensively characterized mechanism of resistance.
