This paper analyses the socio-environmental conflicts related to the Florianópolis Village Golf Resort project. The Environmental and Urban Policies in Brazil are identified, with emphasis on the International Conferences on the Environment and the Principles of Environmental Law. Brazilian Environmental and Urban Planning Legislation is analysed, with emphasis on Constitutional Protection, the National Environmental Policy, the Public Civil Action Law and the City Statute. Finally, the socio-environmental relations between the project and the public authorities, social movements and local communities in Florianópolis are analysed. Historically, natural resources have always been linked to global economic development, serving as fuel to sustain this growth. It is therefore necessary to balance the relationship between the use of natural resources and economic development, so that future generations don't pay for the mistakes resulting from the misuse of these resources.
