Irrigation has a central role in endodontic treatment. The irrigants facilitate removal of micro-organisms, tissue remnants and dentin chips from the root canal through a flushing mechanism.Till date none of the irrigant posses ideal quality that is why in contemporary endodontic practice, dual irrigants have complemented each other to overcome the shortcomings that are associated with the use of a single irrigant. Irrigants have traditionally been delivered into the root-canal space using syringes and metal needles of different size and tip design.Clinical experience and research have shown, however, that this classic approach typically results in ineffective irrigation, particularly in peripheral areas such as anastomoses between canals, fins, and the most apical part of the main root canal.Various methods have been developed in order to provide effective delivery. Conventional Irrigants, newer Irrigants, recently developed irrigation devices and their application mode, efficient irrigation and provides cutting-edge information on the most recent developments are compiled.
