The bacteria located in areas such as isthmuses, ramifications, deltas, irregularities, and dentinal tubules will not be eliminated by mechanical means alone. The use of chemical disinfectants such as root canal irrigants and antimicrobial medications between appointments for elimination of these bacteria and for disinfection of the root canal system is therefore important.
