Reynolds was educated at Codsall High School, near Wolverhampton, followed by Wulfrun Further Education College. She studied at Wadham College at the University of Oxford, where she read Politics, Philosophy and Economics. Prior to becoming an MP Reynolds worked for the Party of European Socialists as an adviser to Robin Cook. She was later appointed an aide to Geoff Hoon and in January 2009 joined commercial public affairs consultancy Cogitamus.
