Hill women use traditional stoves or chulhas for cooking which emanates smoke. Since, kitchens in the most hilly homes are poorly ventilated, the smoke gets accumulated in the house. Prolonged exposure to high levels of pollutants has an adverse impact on the health of women. Although, enough viable and adoptive technologies have been developed but many of these are not reaching to the women residing in remote areas. Thus, an attempt was made to create awareness among the hill women of Uttarakhand through the low cost communication aids.

Dr Kiran Yadav has a PhD in Agricultural Extension and Communication from GBPUA&T, Pantnagar,India. She has been the recipient of many National&International fellowships during her studies. She is the author of several articles published in reputed journals. Presently working with International Crops Research Institute for Semi Arid Tropics, India
