Medicinal plants and phytochemicals are considered as powerful agents to discover drugs for the treatment of various human diseases such as cardiovascular diseases and cancer. A evergreen plant Azadirachta indica have numerous pharmacological properties and use as cure for different diseases. A study was conducted on five male rabbits and after the removal of hair from the skin of rabbits neem-based mosquito repellent was applied to the skin of the rabbits for 30 days. Blood samples were taken before the application of mosquito repellent and then on 7th and 30th day of neem-based mosquito repellent. Samples of blood were gathered in test tubes and centrifuged to separate serum and stored at -4oC in small appendrofs. Total oxidant and antioxidant status, paraoxonase-1, arylestrase, ceruloplasmin, malondialdehyde, catalase nitrite and nitrite levels were determined spectrophotometricaly. ALT and AST were analyzed by using commercially available kits. The neem-based mosquito repellent was found non-significant in relation to skin and body weight while all other tested parameters were significantly modulated by the application of neem-based mosquito repellent.
