This book describes cases and experiences in connection with environmental and cultural ecosystem services in Argentina. It contributes to the debate in connection with different approaches to analyse ecosystem services, focusing on the environment, the Law and social perspectives and concerns. Among the topics discussed are the implementation of the National Forests Act, the regulation and recognition of ecosystem services, the role of indigenous people, the policies in place for nature and forest conservation in different regions of Argentina.

This book is one of the few research studies about cultural ecosystem services developed in Latin America and presents an attractive combination of the legal, environmental and social approaches and was written by an interdisciplinary team of academics who have theoretical and practical experience in this region where there is a valuable natural and cultural heritage.

Master's Degree in Environmental Law, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain (2009), Lawyer, School of Law, Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina (2002). She is a Permanent Researcher specialized in Environmental and International Environmental Law at the Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas (CONICET) in Argentina and at the Institute of Ecology and Sustainable Development, Universidad Nacional de Luján. She is a Professor of Environmental Law at the Universidad Nacional de Luján and a director of several scientific projects related to legal forests, water and ecosystem services protection. She is also a Postgraduate Professor at the Universidad de Buenos Aires and at the Universidad Tecnológica Nacional, in Argentina. Sebastián Valverde, PhD in Social Anthropology, Faculdad de Filosofía y Letras, Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina (2006). He has a degree (2001) and he is Professor (1998) in Anthropological Sciences at the same school. He is Permanent Researcher at the Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas (CONICET), at the Facultad de Filosofía y Letras, Universidad de Buenos Aires, where he is also a Professor at the Department of Anthropological Sciences. He also teaches, as a regular Professor at the Department of Social Sciences at the Universidad Nacional de Luján. He integrates and directs different research projects in both universities, related to economic anthropology, interethnic relations and ethnopolitical movements of indigenous peoples related to the Mapuche indigenous people settled in southern Argentina. He has published articles in specialized magazines and books. He has also directed and supervises different postgraduate thesis, and undergraduate scholarships for students (UBA) and postgraduate (CONICET, FONCYT and UBA). ^
